Our research centres

VIA Learning and Teaching
We study professional practice in schools and preschools.

The research centre develops new knowledge about how professionals work with children in schools and preschools. Areas of research include outdoor pedagogy, language teaching and learning, mathematics and literacy.

We have projects within outdoor education, development of language skills among young children and how schools work with biliteracy.

VIA Culture & Pedagogy
We study the social and pedagogical aspects of working with children.

The research centre carries out projects that strengthens early childhood development. We look at children and youth culture, movement, early childhood pedagogy and realities of daily life for children.

The knowledge we develop is targeted at developing professional pedagogical approaches and methods. It is relevant for the professions of teaching, social work and early childhood pedagogy.

Our research is internationally recognized and two of our researchers this year won a European research award.

VIA Profession & Education
We develop knowledge about the intersection of education and professional practice.

The research centre carries out research on didactic methods, evaluation and ethics in education. Our projects are carried out in close cooperation with professional practice.

Our goal is to develop knowledge that strengthens the connection between higher education in applied sciences and the conditions related to public and private professions.

Among our subject areas are new forms of lifelong learning, guidance methods and ethical challenges in pedagogy and social work.

VIA Lifelong Learning
We create knowledge about lifelong learning from a life-long perspective.

The research centre examines how learning and career planning develops through life

Three programmes are included: vocational education, prior learning assessment and career guidance.

VIA Learning & Digital Technologies
We study how technology affects how we teach and learn.

The research centre develops knowledge about digital production, webbased and blended learning as well as the use of augmented reality.

We study how the use of information technology changes how we teach and learn. How do we incorporate webbased and face-to-face teaching? What are the implications for education professionals? And which education design is most relevant for specific age and educational levels?

VIA Didactics of Professional Practice
The research programme supports projects in new forms of learning.

The research programme develops new media-supported teaching and learning methods.

We support projects that explore curriculum formation, including how knowledge is established and developed.

We evaluate didactic models such as problem-based learning (PBL) and the method: Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate (CDIO).
