Title: Materials Science and Product Design Exchange

Structure and content
You will primarily learn about Materials Technology, Logistics and Finance

As an exchange student, you will be joining the fourth semester of our full degree programme Materials Science and Product Designs.

You can choose between a textile speciality or a furniture speciality during this semester. Please note that we might only be able to offer one of the two specialities depending on the number of students.

The programme will be taught in English and consist of both international and Danish students.

The basic subjects and projects are:

Logistics and Finance - 5 ECTS

You will acquire basic understanding of the concept of logistics and its main elements. In addition, you will acquire basic understanding of how logistics is handled in a company context.

You will also acquire conceptual understanding of the role of logistics in a company and in the supply chain.

Materials Technology (specialty) - 5 ECTS

For the textile speciality: You will acquire basic knowledge of textile fibres (natural fibres and man-made fibres) leather and fur.

For the furniture speciality: You will acquire basic knowledge of furniture materials such as metal, wood, plastic, leather and fur.

In addition, you will acquire basic knowledge of material properties and application.

Materials technology and processing (speciality) – 5 ECTS

For the textile speciality: You will acquire a basic knowledge of fibre constructions, woven and nonwoven, fabric constructions, dyeing, printing, coating/lamination, and finishing, including characteristics, possibilities and limitations.

For the furniture speciality: You will acquire basic knowledge of cutting, metal forming, dyeing, coating, laminating and finishing, including properties, possibilities and limitations.

Electives within materials and processes /management – 5 ECTS

You can choose between different electives within materials and process or management.

Future materials (project) – 10 ECTS

The purpose of the project is for you to gain knowledge and understanding of innovative materials and technologies and apply development processes and methods.

Using the theory acquired, you should be able to apply your knowledge of materials, technologies, innovation development processes and methods, sustainability and environmental matters, academic writing, and graphical documentation to a specific development assignment that will form the basis for your Future Materials Project.

Enrolment
We expect you to have completed one year of study at your home university before you apply for our exchange programme.

VIA University College expects international students who wish to take part of their degree course at VIA University College to have completed the first year of their degree course at their home university.

We work in close cooperation with the students' home universities. This co-operation is to ensure that each course the student completes successfully at VIA University College is credited at the home university.

Language requirements

If you wish to become an exchange student in Materials Science and Product Design at VIA University College, you must be able to speak and write English well.

You must be able to understand spoken English when following courses and also be able to write your homework and other assignments and reports in English.  

How to apply
The application deadline is 15 October every year.

Please note that we accept students from universities with whom we have an exchange agreement only.

When your home university has nominated you for exchange at VIA, we will send you further information and a link to our online application system.

Visa application

A visa application may take up to three months to process. Remember to apply well in advance.

Upon receipt of student application and B2 english language certificate VIA University College will send acceptance letter and ST1 visa application form to the student.

Fees and tuition
Get information about tuition fee.

Exchange students pay no tuition fee if they come from institutions which have signed a Bilateral Agreement on the exchange of students with VIA University College.
