Structure and content
You will primarily learn theory through practical assignments

Science and technology make up about two-thirds of the study programme. Business and language courses make up the last third of the programme.

Teaching is structured around class tutorials, assignments, lab exercises and workshop practice. Classes are small in order to allow group discussions and provide more individualised attention. Focus is on active student-centred learning to develop your critical thinking and interpersonal skills.

Theory taught in classroom sessions is applied in problem-based projects. This prepares you for the way you will work in industry.

1st and 2nd semesters: Core engineering and business courses (60 ECTS)

During the first two semesters, all students take common courses. These will give you the basic skills you need regardless of your field of practice. Courses include mathematics, applied engineering, international marketing and business economics as well as foreign languages and intercultural communication.

3rd and 4th semesters: Core and specialisation courses (60 ECTS)

These semesters will build on the previous semester subjects. In the second year of the degree, you will also begin to shape your own engineering profile. You may specialise in either mechanical engineering or ICT engineering. Core courses include mathematics, financial management, business economics as well as global business communication and a second language.

5th semester: Studies abroad or specialisation courses (30 ECTS)

In order for you to gain invaluable international experience and to boost your future career options, we offer you a unique opportunity to study abroad. We recommend that you spend at least one semester (usually the fifth) abroad through student exchange programmes. You may also continue your studies in Horsens instead of going abroad.

Please note that from the 5th semester, all courses are taught in Horsens.

6th and 7th semesters: Core courses, electives and specialisation courses (60 ECTS)

You will study advanced courses within engineering, management & strategy, languages as well as personal competences and communication.

8th semester: Internship (30 ECTS)

During this semester, you will do an internship in a company in Denmark or abroad. The internship gives you the opportunity to acquire invaluable work experience in a challenging environment and to put into practice the knowledge you have gained during your studies.

9th semester: Electives and Bachelor Project (30 ECTS)

You will continue choosing from a wide range of electives depending on your interests and line of specialisation. In the 9th semester, you will prepare your final project - the Bachelor Project. The project is challenging and integrates the skills and concepts you have learned during the programme.

Experience the working world

Doing an internship is a great way to get first-hand work experience and to gain access to the best graduate jobs.

As a part of this professional bachelor's degree programme, you are required to do an internship in the 8th semester. This will allow you to apply theory to real-world business tasks and also to practice a number of valuable skills such as communication, time and project management, innovation and teamwork.

You will benefit from working in a real-life engineering environment and gain professional experience relevant to your future career as a Global Business Engineer.

The internship will also improve your employability, as work-readiness is a top priority to employers when they look for graduates to fill vacancies.

Remember that the main reason for companies to recruit students is not just to bring extra skills to a specific project but to view you as a potential hire.

Where should you do your internship?

You may do the internship in a company of your choice in Denmark or abroad. Recently, students have found placements in countries such as Germany, France, Spain, the USA, Australia and China.

Duration and pay

The minimum period allowed for an internship is 20 weeks of full-time work. Some internships are salaried, but there is no obligation for the company to pay a salary.

Career guidance
As a graduate, you can look forward to excellent employment prospects worldwide.

The hallmark of the programme is the international focus and the inter-disciplinary skills which will make you attractive to a wide range of companies.

Global business engineers operate primarily in the industrial market, especially in mechanical and IT-related industries.

The degree qualifies you to fill managerial positions within design and implementation of technical solutions, as well as within marketing and sales.

Your first job might be as a project manager, export manager, product manager or marketing coordinator.

Help transitioning towards a career

The Career Service Centre at VIA Campus Horsens helps your transition from being a student to being a part of the working world. They offer advice about your options and organise Company Dating, where students and companies meet each other in an informal way.

Further education

Following your graduation, you can complement your bachelor’s degree with a master’s programme at Danish universities or business schools. The terms of admission vary depending on the specific programmes.

You may also apply for one of the diploma programmes at VIA University College.

Double-degree programmes

Our double-degree programme also offers the possibility of obtaining two degrees in about the same time as it would take to do one separate degree.

International Opportunities
A study abroad experience provides global insight and perspective.

To enrich the study experience and nurture cultural diversity on campus, we encourage our students to study abroad and welcome foreign students from partner institutions.

VIA University College have coorperation agreements with approximately 200 institutions in 33 countries in Europe as well as overseas.

This means that you have the opportunity to choose to study, for instance, for one semester at one of our partner institutions in another country.

You may also choose to do your internship in an international company in another part of the world. Both possibilities give you the opportunity to experience the way of life in another culture.

Today's business world is a global marketplace, and so having a study abroad experience is something many companies would like to see on your CV.
