About the course
Learn about Nordic Fashion Design and develop your design skills through excursions, studies, lectures and hands-on projects

Through inspiration and excursions, VIA Design will introduce you to the main aspects of Scandinavian Fashion Design. Case studies, lectures and hands-on projects will guide you through the process and help you understand how Danish fashion design has developed over the years, honouring the traditions of minimalism and craftsmanship. It will inspire you to develop your own design skills in another context and introduce you to a new network.

We will of course take part in Copenhagen Fashion Week and you will visit major fashion brands in Denmark. You will also visit the Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen, The Danish Textile Museum and HEART Museum in Herning. Their exhibitions, archives, libraries and collections are an essential part of Denmark’s design and art heritage and an important source of inspiration for future designers.

Teaching style

The programme will be a combination of group work, individual exercises, lectures and workshops where you will learn how to develop a fashion concept and how to sketch. You will also acquire knowledge of idea generation methods, develop a line-up and prepare a final presentation in the form of a portfolio

The winter school has a high level of student involvement and includes group work, individual exercises, lectures and workshops.

Lecturers:

Professionals from the fashion industry will be part of the team of lecturers teaching the course.

Practical information
This winter school takes place in our innovative Design Campus in Herning

Accommodation

We recommend the Hotel DGI Huset. It is a 3-star hotel located in the heart of Herning and the largest in the region. It is known for its unique decor and abundance of in- and outdoor facilities, including fitness centre, spa and a spectacular swim centre.

Campus Herning

Campus Herning is located in the city of Herning and from here you can easily travel to Denmark’s major cities within a few hours. You can take a 45-minute shuttle bus to the nearby Billund Airport, and from there you can travel to all of Europe.

Living in Herning

Denmark is one of the world’s safest countries, and our crime rates are low. However, you should still take the same precautions as you would in any larger European city.

Exploring Europe

It only takes a few hours to fly to all the major cities in Europe from Billund Airport, making Denmark a European gateway. For example, you can drive to Hamburg and take in the modern metropolis, or fly to Paris to eat croissants and visit the Eiffel Tower, ticking off the list of European destinations on your bucket list.
